Guided Steelhead and Trout fishing in Vancouver, BC and the Fraser River Valley, British Columbia, Canada
steelhead fishing near vancouver

Vancouver BC Steelhead Fishing and Trout Fishing on Vancouver area rivers with professional fishing guides. We provide fly fishing or lure fishing guided trips for Steelhead on our coastal rivers for Steelhead to 25 lbs!. Hotel pickup is free for these trips.

Float fishing for Steelhead is the most popular method and quite productive too, with a variety of baits or presentations such as jigs or roe drifted through holding water. It is highly recommended that if you have never angled for Steelhead that float fishing is the proper way to introduce yourself to this magnificent fish. One of my early mentors had taught me this and I hold it to be very true as it teaches you where fish hold and correct presentation techniques. He was a fly shop owner and had fished for Steelhead for 50 yrs. We offer classes for Steelhead techniques and we are well experienced using jigs- the most productive method for hooking Steelies!

Fly Fishing for Steelhead  Silversides has extensive knowledge fly fishing for Steelhead on our local rivers and our other fly fishing guides are top notch rods. We custom tie all our flies too. Successful Fly fishing for this elusive fish requires that conditions be better than slow, proper water flows, temperatures, and better than novice abilities with 8-9 weight fly rods. If these conditions don't exist then it could be a long day. Thats why I recommend that you be willing or open to using conventional gear if you have your heart set on playing a fish. Here in the pacific northwest we rely so much on weather patterns to provide us with proper river conditions otherwise fishing can be on the slow side.

There is also fly fishing well known rivers like the Squamish, Pitt or Harrison for Bull trout, Dolly Varden, Cutthrout and Rainbow trout to helicopter fishing some remote coastal rivers that are teaming with Trout and Steelhead and the only fly they've seen is yours. Our lake fly fishing is world renown for producing good numbers of Rainbow trout on very nutrient rich waters. Lakes are situated in the southwestern BC high country plateau where wildlife such as moose, deer and bears are common sights. Lake fly fishing is done from float tubes for comfort and stealth. It is quite common to catch 20-50 fish in a day on some easy lakes that produce 1-2 lb trout, but there are also the tough lakes that produce Rainbow trout to 8 lbs or more. On these lakes a good day is 6 fish but when we time it perfectly it can be non stop action. For me I love this fishery! it offers such solitude and beauty perfectly combined with the fine art of fooling feeding and selective trout.

I do recommend booking multiple day trips for the lake fishing due to travel logistics, that way you can enjoy more fishing and less travelling but day trips are available.

Best time for Lake fishing is May to late June and September to October.

Best time for Trout River trips are mid March to May 7 and also November to mid December.

Steelhead Fishing near Vancouver, BC in the Fraser Valley is great on the Chilliwack River where fish average 10-12 lbs and are good biters on roe, pink worms, jigs and blades. The Pitt River also offers good returns of Steelhead. Fly fishing is also productive at times but some skill is required if you want hookups. If you have experience river fly fishing with 8-9 weights and sink tip line then you have a good chance. Beginners need to consider using our gear methods for any success. I believe catching fish is more important than the method.

Best times for Steelhead are January to April.
Steelhead range from 6-24 lbs
