| Freshwater Fishing Seasons for Vancouver and the Fraser River valley: |
| Salmon: Chinook, Kings and Springs |
Best times: June 20- October 15,
Superbest: June 25-July 15, Aug 20-Sept 10, Sept 20-Oct 10
Chinook (Kings) salmon, also known locally as Spring salmon are the largest of all the salmon and can attain weights of over 70 pounds but generally average 20-25 lbs with many fish 30-40 lbs.
Due to their size, Chinook salmon are the hardest fighters, they are built for power and speed and will amaze you as they can tear out into the middle of the Fraser river within seconds! Baits and lures of choice are Spin-glos, plugs and spin-blades set in the fish travel lanes, and also we back bounce with secret baits later in the season with amazing results. Back bouncing is for anglers who have some skill and finesse, it is quite a delicate procedure until FISH-ON!
Chinooks start their migration into the Fraser river in March and continue until the end of November, however during the earliest and latest migration times their numbers can be very low, that is why we target them mostly from June to October. Their is some decent opportunities in April and May to fish for them as some early runs are very aggressive biters. Any chinook caught before May 1 must be released. We also fish for Chinooks on other local Vancouver area rivers such as the Harrison river where the biggest ones are taken, this river produces big White Chinooks that will reach over 80 lbs!, but average around 30 lbs. The Chilliwack river also has a big run of white and red Chinooks from mid September to mid October with average sizes around 25 lbs.

Sockeye Salmon: |
Best times: Aug 1-20(most years), mid Sept-late Oct.(Harrison river)
Sockeye salmon are excellent game fish and prized worldwide for their table quality. These fish enter the Fraser river from June to October but are only available for sportfishing from August 1-30 in most years. On the Fraser river August has typically been Sockeye time as anyone can catch them with the 'bottom bouncing' technique where a long leader behind a 2-3 ounce weight flosses the fish as they swim upstream in schools of thousands. This method is questionable to the sportsman who prefers his fish to bite. For those who want to catch sockeye who actually bite then we offer Harrison river guided trips where sockeye will take your offering all day long. We can't tell you what it is but it does involve small lures under a float in clear water. You will need experience with a baitcaster/levelwind/multiplier or centrepin type reel. Harrison river sockeye are mostly catch and release but on light tackle they are great fighters. Due to their large numbers, we have experienced 50+ fish days every year.

Pink Salmon |
Best times: late August - Sept 30
Pink Salmon enter our local rivers every 'odd' numbered year in very large numbers so 2007 and 2009. Fly fishing is popular because Pinks are very agressive and school up in thousands making for some great days on the water. They provide excellent game on the fly, jigs or light tackle. It is common to land dozens in a single day per person. Jet boat trips for Pink salmon in the Fraser river valley or walk and wade too. Pinks are best enjoyed smoked or eaten fresh within a few days, we can provide smoking and shipping too. Fresh Pink salmon with a shore lunch is a great lunch option which we can provide.

STURGEON Sturgeon fishing on the Fraser River |
Best times: April to May, July 15 to November 15, Superbest : August to Nov 7
Average size: 4-7 feet
Fraser river Sturgeon are prehistoric large bottom fish that can exceed 14 feet in length and over 1000 lbs! Sturgeon are well known for their amazing fighting ability with long runs and jumps, and according to many world anglers they rank up their with Marlin and Mako shark. They are bottom feeders so we anchor our jetboat and let our bait sit on the bottom waiting for the bite to begin. Fraser river Sturgeon are available all year round and have a very healthy population, many of our clients have requested an early end to the day as a result of fighting so many big fish. In peak times it is common to catch 15 fish per boat and quite commonly we hook into sturgeon over 8 feet long. They are hard fighters, jumpers and have amazing stamina. A bonus to any fishing day. Sturgeon fishing is easily combined with salmon fishing for a truly complete Fraser river fishing experience.
If you want to entertain a group of clients then a Sturgeon fishing trip is ideal. Large groups are ideal for fun times and derbies can be arranged too.

Steelhead |
Best times: mid Dec to April
Steelhead Trout are the true trophy fish of British Columbia and are available on almost all Vancouver area rivers. There are 2 different runs of steelhead - Winter and Summer. Winter run Steelhead enter our local rivers such as the famous Chilliwack river from December to April, or the pristine and uncrowded Squamish river valley from March to May. Summer run Steelhead enter some local rivers from June to September and are great fighters. Steelhead are taken on almost anything provided presentation and timing is proper and this is why 10% of the anglers catch 90% of the fish and why a guide is so important to have. Silversides Fishing uses the best jigs(we tie our own), baits and flies which I also tie. Fly fishing for Steelhead is the ultimate challenge and landing one is the big payoff. I have extensive knowledge in fly fishing for Steelhead. You must be at least intermediate level fly angler for reasonable chances, but practically anyone can catch them with bait/lure and a good fishing guide which we are more than happy to provide you with. Average size is 10- 12 lbs and 20 lbs is always a possibility.

Rainbow Trout |
Best times: May to July, Sept 15 to October 30ıı
These are the ones I highly recommend for the stillwater fly fishing enthusiast. Rainbow trout are a premium fighting fish on the fly, they will try to jump and twist their way to freedom with reckless abandon. We fish for Rainbows in the Interior region of B.C. which is only a 2.5 hour beautiful drive from Vancouver heading east through the Fraser valley and then climbing up to 4000 ft into the mountains and into the interior plateau where scores of lakes full of trout await you. Fly fishing from a float tube(belly boat) or rowboat is the best way to pursue these beauties and offers a peacefull experience on tranquil waters, often accompanied by an assortment of ducks, song birds, and eagles. Flies of choice are chironomids, leeches, mayflies, damsels, dragons. Fish size averages 14- 17" but can exceed 26".
