The Chum salmon is probably the hardest fighting salmon we have in the Fraser river valley and the Vancouver BC area. Pound for pound- Chum salmon are a great sportfish for they scrap very hard and fast, bite quite readily if you've got the right offering and our fishing guides are true pros who know exactly what Chum Salmon cannot resist, they are very aggressive and high numbers of fish mean that you can catch up to 50 per day if your arms can take it!, whether your fly fishing or angling with our highly productive drift technique that the fresh ones love! Chum salmon just don't give up and we have had our arms shaking with exhaustion after a good battle. A 15-20 lb male Chum has an amazing ability to pull full strength for 15 minutes. The Fraser river valley and Harrison river is home to huge returns of these fish from late September to early December with November being the prime month for big chrome, sea lice fresh salmon. They literally spawn everywhere and anywhere there is running water.
The Harrison river, 90 minutes east of Vancouver British Columbia provides excellent sportfishing for Chum salmon from early October to late November. There are 2 runs of Chum salmon in the Harrison river, October run and November run, the early ones show up in late September and spawn out by early November. Another run enters the Harrison river in early November and fishing is great for these fish as there is very low numbers of anglers and plenty of fresh and chrome aggressive Chums. By early December things wind down.
The Chilliwack river also has excellent returns of Chum salmon from October right through to late November. Many more rivers are the same story. |
